P.R. Garcia grew up in rural Michigan and is the youngest of three. She became a lover of Science Fiction at an early age when her parents took her to the movies. She and her dog spent many days in the fields fighting aliens and investigating new planets. Her love continued to grow, and in high school, the series Star Trek hit television, boosting her fascination with what might be out there. Her friends still comment on how she skipped the football games to stay home and watch each episode.
P.R. Garcia, the youngest of three siblings, grew up in rural Michigan. Her love for science fiction started at an early age when her parents introduced her to the sci-fi classics from the 1950s and ’60s: The Day the Earth Stood Still with Michael Rennie and Patricia Neal, Journey to the Center of the Earth with Pat Boone and James Mason, Forbidden Planet with Leslie Nielsen, Planet of the Apes with Charles Heston, The Time Machine with Rod Taylor and many more. Her passion for science fiction spilled over into her school, where science and math were her favorite subjects. Through her early years, she and her dog, Blondie, spent many days in the fields behind her house exploring new planets and fighting aliens. In 1966, the Star Trek series hit television, boosting her fascination for what might lie in space and the endless possibilities. Her friends still comment on how she skipped the football games to stay home and watch each episode.
After retiring, she moved to southern California, where she volunteered at the San Diego Aquarium and the San Diego Natural History Museum. Through the museum, she joined The Whalers, a dedicated group of men and women who volunteered their time as instructors on the whaleboats. On these excursions, she met people from across the United States and around the world and encountered various species of whales and dolphins. Her greatest memories are watching two humpbacks playing and slapping each other with their pectoral fins, and a super pod of common dolphins numbering in the upper hundreds.
During this time volunteering on the whaleboats, she watched a documentary on Jupiter and her moons, particularly the moon of Europa. The film stated that the surface of Europa was covered in a thick layer of ice and that beneath it, scientists believed, was a planet-wide ocean. They speculated simple-life could thrive in the waters. Ms. Garcia believed a more advanced life was not only possible but probable. Since Europa's waters were sealed and not influenced by outside factors, anything could exist! Including intelligent life!! Combining this premise with her love and knowledge of whales, she wrote her first book and became a best-selling author. When she completed the first book, she felt there was more to the story and wrote a second, then a third. When she finished, she had written a ten-book series entitled "The Europa Saga." The series retells the story of Atlantis, who the Atlantians were and are, why they came to Earth, and what happened to them.
While all her books are dear to her, two hold a special place in her heart. The first is The Bounty Hunter, the story of a lone hunter in the galaxy whose dedication to his craft is threatened when he is thrown into a struggle for life with a young woman and falls in love. Ms. Garcia takes pride in the fact that this book has brought grown men to tears. Her second favorite book is Guardians of Earth II, another love story, but this time between a human and an android. Her eyes were so full of tears she had trouble writing the emotional scenes in this book.
While P.R. Garcia's love for science fiction remains unwavering, she has also ventured into the realm of children's literature under the name of Pamela Garcia. Her transition to writing children's stories is a testament to her versatility as an author and her ability to cater to a diverse audience. Her latest project, "Granny Ducks and Their Giggling Gaggle", is a whimsical collection of children's books that celebrate the joy and laughter that grannies bring to our lives.
